The Festival de Cannes has officially opened the call for entries for the Compétition Immersive 2026, inviting creators from around the world to submit innovative immersive works that push the boundaries of contemporary storytelling.
Dedicated to emerging narrative forms, the Compétition Immersive celebrates projects that explore new ways of engaging audiences through technology and experience. Eligible formats include free-roaming XR and standalone experiences, as well as large-scale video projections.
By showcasing immersive storytelling at the heart of the Festival, the Compétition Immersive continues Cannes’ commitment to supporting creative innovation and highlighting how new technologies are reshaping cinematic language and audience engagement.
The Compétition Immersive seeks works that are truly transformative — narratives that are intrinsically dependent on spatial technologies and could not exist within, or be translated to, traditional cinematic forms. Particular consideration is given to projects that challenge conventional perceptions of immersive practice, positioning it as a distinct artistic medium rather than merely a technological extension. Such works represent a significant step forward in the evolution of immersive storytelling and will be especially distinguished within the selection.
Selected projects will be presented from 12 to 22 May during the 79th Festival de Cannes, offering creators a unique opportunity to share their work on an international stage and connect with leading voices from the global film and immersive industries.
