Throughout his career, Mizuguchi has created highly unique experiences that challenge and engage the human senses. At the core is synesthesia and activating one’s imagination and emotions through the power of XR tech-driven interactive arts.

The full-body haptic Synesthesia Suit paired with the VR game Rez Infinite and the Synesthesia X1 device are one-of-a-kind sensory experiences that must be felt to be understood. He is also the principal of the Synesthesia Lab and project professor at Keio University Graduate School of Media Design.

He led the judging panel for the 2007 Japan Media Arts Festival Entertainment Division and served as a jury on many competitions. In 2020, he guest co-curated Virtual Realms in collaboration with Barbican Immersive, reimagining video game creativity across virtual and physical realms. Award-winning game credits include Rez (2001), Rez Infinite (2016), Lumines (2004), Lumines Remastered (2018), Child of Eden (2011), Tetris Effect (2018), Humanity (2023).
